03/30/03 - I'VE BEEN TRYING TO UPDATE, I PROMISE!!! - Home

Hello friends, this is my fourth attempt to update my page in the last five days. I've had a few computer problems, but if you're actually reading this, it means I got them all smoothed out. So, here's the latest low down on the throw down. The Van-Dells are preparing for a very big gig on April 5th in Paducah, KY. It will feature a full horn and percussion section along with a whole new set of tunes and a lot of surprises that I've been sworn to secrecy on, or I will be captured and tortured, ha ha. Just kidding, I'd could kick all of their asses and they know it, actually, I have a few times... (AGAIN, JUST KIDDING). Yesterday was a domesticated day for the Parks residence as Dustin's 3rd birthday party was underway with his family, all of Vic's side and even my parents made a four hour trek to visit. It went over great and we all had a great time. We also added to the Parks clan with a few months ago, the dog "Sammy" and now as of yesterday, the new "unnamed" kitten. She's precious and I'll have photos up soon of both. Putting on a 3 year olds party with all those people is a huge undertaking...I even mentioned to Vic earlier in the day, "why do I feel like I'm getting ready for a show?"... Having a wife like Vic really makes it all easy, she's a diamond in the rough. She's stronger than I could ever dream of being. Holding it all together is what she does best, and believe me, she IS the best. I love you Vic. To my parents, thanks for being the best damn parents on the face of the planet...I love you both very much and thanks for making the drive to come see your boy and his new family.  Ok, I'm back...had to venture off there for a second. Back the the biz for which that I live...MUSIC...I received a call on midday Friday from the management of one kick ass blues group, THE KELLY RICHEY BAND. They needed a fill in drummer, THAT NIGHT!!!. I has happy to oblige and made my way to a VERY quick rehearsal. That night was Kelly Richey's CD release party, the crowd was intense as was the show as the bass player and I along with Kelly really fell into a groove onstage and made it all click in what seemed to be a very effortless concert. A autograph session took place afterwards as we met fans for a while. Jeff Stevens (my biggest fan) along with his mom showed up to support as I had placed a "heads up" call to him and put him on the guest list for the event. How things sorta come together, I'll never know, the secret is in the stars and heavens above or the Gods or whatever, but the fact remains, they still come together, and they always seem to do. Therefore I've found myself less than 24 hours after the Kelly Richey show booked on a tour with The Kelly Richey Band in April. Check my Schedule page for tour dates. The KRB is one hell of a group and I suggest any rock n' blues fans check her out. Go to www.kellyrichey.com  where you can order CD's, and other merchandise, or better yet...come to a show and buy some stuff and check out the band, I promise you'll love them. (us). Well, it's time for me to finally lay down and think about nothing for a few hours. I love ya for reading and keeping up with me, thank you for your support. Come see me with the Kelly Richey Band if you can in April...Rock on...dp

03/18/03 - BACK TO THE GROOVE - Indianapolis, IN

Hello friends, fresh out of rehearsal and loaded with a fistful of new material for the show, we rocked into the show in Linton, IN this past week performing a few new tunes for fans. Last night we played our opening night in Indianapolis, IN also adding a few new tunes. The fans have been wonderful bearing gifts and full of questions about my new married life, and new hair cut. I told Vic on the phone last night that I had more questions about her than I did about my drumming. I'll have to get her to pre-autograph some stuff, ha ha. Buddy Leach is here in Indy playing saxophone with us. He adds such a wonderful groove to the show that just isn't there when he's not on tour with us. It makes it all groove and makes me such a happy drummer. I can't wait to add the rest of the new material to the show, I'm sure you'll enjoy it once it's all together. The weather is beautiful, and I'm getting hungry so I'm gonna venture out into the great city of Indy to find a sandwich and prepare for the show tonight. Rock on...dp

03/09/03 - YES, I'VE BEEN IN HIDING - Home

Hello friends, I've been way busy and a lot going on lately. So I walk into the room with my head bowed as I know that I've neglected my road notes duties. The last time I updated my site was Feb. 20th, 2003. I attended a concert in Columbus, OH. One of my favorite bands, KING'S X played that night. It was a spectacular event as King's X ALWAYS puts on. What I didn't know was, in Rhode Island, another band that I dig had the most tragic event of their careers happening to them. I'm of course speaking of the fire that killed many people including the guitarist of Great White and one Crew member. My heart are with all those lost and their families, as that tragedy hit very close to home for me. Vic and I attended the Chris Robinson concert here in Cincinnati on my birthday last week. It was awesome to see him doing his thing also. We've been playing shows right and left, but last week we played in my old home town of Owensboro, KY. It was so wonderful as I went up to my hotel room to to awake my beautiful wife with the words, "your family is downstairs waiting on you"...Vic said, "what do you mean my family", and I said, "we'll, you'll be meeting a lot of people tonight that you're NOW related too. Many of my family showed up, as old friends and boys in the business came backstage to greet me. The next day was a big day also as My family held the wedding shower for Vic and I, that was a feeling I'll never forget. Afterwards we made our way to Matt and Nicole Grays humble home for a small listening party along with Michael Hicks from Kickback Jack and Patrick. We tuned into 103.1 WGBF as they played for the first time on radio, two new tunes. One being a GSP song, "OUT OF MY MIND" from the "In the beginning..." record. The other song was from the upcoming "Kickback Jack" record. The song - "Sysiphus". It rocked...we loved hearing our song control the air waves for five minutes. Back home, it's back to the Van-Dells as we're in rehearsals all this week, putting new songs into the show...it should be a great thing. I'm looking forward to it. I'm tired...gotta run...c-ya laters...rock on...dp
