06/29/04 - CATCHING UP, ALMOST - Home
Hello friends, what a wonderful crowd in Ft. Recovery, OH this past Sunday night! If you weren't there, you missed a wonderful night. The weather was perfect and so were the people. I hope to have photos from this soon. Jeff, Kasey and his friend and myself all hit a local ball diamond before the show to play some baseball. We've been doing this from town to town. It's a great way of exercise and keeps the dullness of the road and backstage blah from setting in. Speaking of photos, I do have a lot of updates coming. I guess you could say that I'm on back order on quite a few. I just received a disc of photos from Mark that includes many cruise photos from this past April. Speaking of things to catch up on, I forgot to mention a funny little story from my trip to see my parents. Like I said, my father and I stepped out for about an hour to throw a cold one back and just talk for a while at one of our favorite local hang outs. We know the owner pretty well and as we approached him to chat. Right when we started to talk, I heard the opening riff to "Maybe Someday" from the GSP record start to take over the room through the speakers. I was stunned as I was not expecting to hear this. I leaned in towards Frankie (the bar owner) to say, "knew I was coming huh?" as I pointed up at the jukebox. He said, "no, they play this in here all the time" pointing over to a few patrons playing darts and billiards. I noticed one person dancing and singing along. I can't tell ya how good it feels to see someone singing along to a song that I played on or even more, one that I wrote. I have one last seam to patch before I sign off...my fathers birthday was yesterday, I know he'll be reading this and since I didn't post anything yesterday, I wanted to acknowledge it publicly. He's a wonderful man who has taught me how to be a man myself. I love him dearly, Happy Birthday Pop! I'm getting pumped about the upcoming tour. The dates are a little thicker than they have been for July and we have such a good time doing it too. The fans support is tremendous and it's nothing we over look. Brazil, IN is the next tour stop, we'll see you there! Rock on...dp
06/27/04 - GIGGIN' HERE AND THERE - Franklin, OH
Hello friends,
out on the road again and working, ok, just a little. Yes the tour dates are
pretty bad, someone call the agent please. I have been filing in some dates with
side groups, fill in gigs and plenty of students. Spending time at home with the
family and loving that a lot. We had a cook out with other family members and
friends yesterday playing a popular game in the Cincinnati area called Corn
Hole. It's sorta like horse shoes but with bean bags and angled tables with a
hole placed at the top of each table. It was a nice day with perfect weather.
I want to thank the fans that showed up in Evansville, IN along with all the
Parrot Heads who danced the night away to Jimmi Powers & Company at the Jimmy
Buffet Party. We had a lot of fun, Jimmi sure does know how to work a crowd and
Kevin Booke has the voice of a thousand Gods and plays bass to match. It's
always a wonderful treat to perform with these boys. I hope to do it again soon.
It was a good excuse to go see my folks and friends in Owensboro too. I was able
to spend a little delayed Fathers Day time with my old man. That's always
nice...Thanks for reading, see ya at a show very soon, rock on...dp
06/21/04 - NO REST FOR THE WHOOPED - Home
Hello friends, I know it's been over a month, but I've been practicing my daddy skills and enjoying ever minute of it by the way. Since my last post, I've been working fill in gigs with the Kelly Richey Band and working on side projects as well as the normal Van-Dells tour dates. The KRB show in Kokomo, IN last week was a biker rally which is always a load of fun, you can't ask for a better crowd. Many of you that remember Mongo from the Van-Dells crew, accompanied me to the show. We cut up and talked about old road stories most of the trip. The Christmas record is in the later stages of production. It was sounding great the last I had heard it as they've since added vocals, horns and have started mixing. The shows in Wilmington, OH and Lancaster, OH went wonderful with once again great audiences. The opening act in Lancaster worked the crowd and gave us a run for our money. I should have photos up soon, keep checking back. For fans in the Evansville, IN area. I'll be working the Jimmy Buffet party at the Hacienda restaurant with my old partners in crime, Jimmi Powers & Company on June 23rd starting at 8 PM central. Many of you showed up at the last one a few years back and it was a good time, thought you'd be interested attending this one also. Don't forget your colorful beach attire and your appetite. There's sure to be plenty of food and drink for everyone. See ya in Margaritaville...dp
