06/30/03 - AIN'T LIFE GRAND - Home
Hello friends, I have no friggin' clue where my latest boost of lust for life has come from lately, but everything in the world of David Parks has just been rockin' lately. The show in Louisville on Saturday night was phenomenal. Personally, I felt it was the best show all year for myself. My lovely wife attended along with my parents and friends. It was my fathers birthday and it was a real treat to point him out to the crowd from the stage and announce my fathers birthday. My monitor mix was the best it's ever been, Paul you kick ass bro! Laurie made a special trip from Louisville and that was nice to see her again. She even jumped into her old job of winding cables and things at the end of the show. Backstage, it was one huge party as we celebrated a wonderful crowd and show. Kasey and Vic went to the club next door to dance as I did meet and great and hung out with some friends and drank a few cold ones to come down from the ride. Kasey and even switched instruments in the middle of the show for two tunes. Duke announced his son, "Kasey Todd on the drums" and he got a pretty loud response, he kicked ass, I'm proud of him. I played percussion while he jammed out on the songs. After the show, I walked into the dressing room drenched in sweat as I could hear the other guys celebrating rants echoing down the backstage hallway, I walked in to hear, "great show man"...and I went on to say, "it was so a great show, ask me how much so"...(how great was it)..."the show was so good, I'm bleeding". Yup, I played til my hands actually bled. It was painful, but a great way to feel at the end of the night. I love this job, and look forward to playing very soon. The tour starts up this Wednesday night in Brazil, IN. That's ALWAYS a great crowd. We'll be seeing you then...thanks again for reading...right on...dp
06/27/03 - BIRTHDAYS AND GIGS - Home
Hello friends, a fine time was had in Biloxi, MS visiting with old friends as Larry Grisham from the Beat Daddys stopped by the hotel to catch up on things. Larry dropped by a video copy of the footage shot back in November from the New4U TV show. I'll be getting that mpeged soon and up on the site. Hey Mike, did you hear that, I need your help on that one bro...give me a call. Fellow Beat Daddy, Britt along with his wife and Larry's mother came to the show and it made me feel really good to have such good musicians be such good friends. I had to laugh as I heard some fans after the show chatting about how the Van-Dells should ad "Old time rock n roll" by Bob Seger to the set. I then pointed Britt out to the couple and let them in on he's the one who played guitar on that track. Speaking of Britt, today's his birthday...happy birthday bro! Tomorrow the Van-Dells will play Louisville, KY and along with my wife, my parents will attend...which will be my father's birthday. Happy Birthday POP!!! Love ya. Well, that's all for now folks, I've got a lot of business to tend to, we'll c-ya on the road very soon...dp
06/24/03 - BACK ON THE GULF - Biloxi, MS
Hello friends, here in Biloxi, again. It's a private party, hate to spoil it for the fans, but I'm not too fond of the private gigs either. One good thing though, I get to catch up with some old friends from the Beat Daddy's. As I write this edition of road notes, Larry Grisham is on his way to my hotel to visit. My week home was nice to spend with my wife and family as we attended 5 parties in only two days. A family reunion, birthday party and two graduation parties took place all in on 24 hour period. Other than scoring four free tickets to the Chicago concert only to have it cancelled because of the river flooding, it was a great time home. I've got some good things coming up on the site pretty soon, so be keeping your eyes peeled. That's pretty much it for now, but I'll see ya on the flip side...rock on...dp
06/14/03 - POUR, POUR MASSILON - Lima, OH
Hello friends, we awoke in Massilon, OH this morning to read the headlines of the local paper and a two page article about a concert that never happened. Blame it on Friday the 13th or whatever you may, but this is the second year in a row a huge crowd filed into the streets to see us play for it to only get rained out. Last year, we didn't even make into sound check without getting rained out, this year we got in a good twenty minutes into the show before the rain us brought the music to a dead stop. We felt awful to see the crowd of that size have to set in the heat all day, then to only have it rained out. The stories rolled in and where tossed about backstage on fans who drove in from Michigan, WV and other parts of the country just to see this show. Backstage after the show, drenched as we were, we started changing as I heard Mark say, "this is such a bummer, cause this would have been one of those shows that we all would have left here feeling good". I think he summed up everyone's feelings in that one statement. Bill Curtain, the show promoter, friend and fellow drummer and I set backstage before the show and talked drums al usual. He's a great guy and we always have fun hanging with each other. Bill and Dayne give each other hell on baseball teams and it's a hoot to watch the friendly fire talk. The crew guys were fun to talk to as one of them brought up "Sammy Hagar" and then naturally I had my stories on Sammy. Fans aren't recognizing me with my new hair style and all my facial hair gone...some fans are saying, if it wasn't for the logo, "David Parks" on my front drum head, they wouldn't know it was me from far away. Tomorrow we play Ft. Recovery, OH...I'm hoping to get a full show in as I'm eager to play. Stories Owensboro are the Kickback Jack record is slowly but surely on it's way. I've been listening to some mixes, and I just can't wait to release this stuff, I love it, I'm a fan of it. Bone Pony made a stop into Gray Sky Music a few weeks ago and while walking by the "Wall of Fame", Scott looked up and said, "hey, you know Dave?", Not realizing that Matt and I were good friends. Tramp even pointed out Michael. It's road life, and it's a wonderful life. Keep on rocking...dp

06/7/03 - AHH, ROAD LIFE - Marion, IN
Hello friends, kicking back in the hotel with my boys, watching some TV and talking about the last few shows. We played last week in Evansville, IN. It was wonderful to see old friends, my parents and fans as it's been a while since we've hit that area. The parties after the shows led us to the morning sunrise. The week at home was spent recharging the batteries as this weekend started what I consider to be the kickoff to the summer tour. Thursday night was a wonderful night for a tour kickoff as Vicky and Dustin attended along with close to 1500 others at the Fraze Pavillion in Dayton, OH. It was a wonderful scene and a great show. Night number two led us to Wilmington, OH where a slight larger audience packed in early to get the good seats. The show came close to ending a few minutes early as rain threatened with it's presence. We spent the night talking to our wives, fans and friends standing in the rain. Sorry to those whose autographs were ruined in the rain. Some fans had self made 8X10 promos of us that we spent signing during the afternoon. What a thrill that have such great support, thank you again. Well, the nights are turning into sunrise bedtimes, the smell of gasoline, 18 wheelers and truck stop grub, There's no doubt the tour is on, I love it...c-ya on the road very soon...dp
