04/29/04 - ROCK AND ROLL SIR! - Home
Hello friends, two days later but my ears are still ringing, but it's just a pleasant reminder of the ass kicking the was so wonderfully served to myself along with my wonderful wife and a few accompanied friends. The concert that has left me humbled was given by one of my favorite rock groups, TESLA. www.teslatheband.com I've been a fan since 1987 or so. Seen them a few times and even met them once before this last time, but a camera was not present. It's always a treat that I never take for granted when given the chance to see such a wonderful TRUE rock n roll band. Even though I'm disappointed that I once again didn't get a photo opportunity with Troy (the drummer), it was great meeting him again. They treated all my friends and other fans so wonderfully and with much respect. My friend and fellow Kickback Jack band mate, Mike Hicks made the road trip in from Owensboro with friends Bryan and Aaron. Good friend Zach Stewart also made the trek, met up with Vic and I and we went down to Bogarts concert hall to see the show. Mike had met the bass player at a restaurant before the show and he hooked him up with decent seats. I was planning on making the trek with the boys down to Nashville last night for the Kings X show but at the last minute bowed out due to me given schedule for the next few weeks, needless to say family won that battle hands down. I know, I know, it's not like me to miss something like that, but when you have a daughter and wife as beautiful as I, then it's not that hard of a choice. I spent the day working on tightening up loose ends on my new Ludwig Red Sparkle kit. I'll unveil them at the show in Evansville, IN this weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing friends there as it's always a good show. I'll have one day off which is really a travel day then we hit rehearsals on Monday, then begin our first day of tracking on Thursday in the studio. I'll be giving a play by play as much as I can on the progress. Again, no photos from the cruise, blame Mark please, or me cause I left my camera in my road case, but he has photos and has not sent them yet. However, here are a few photos from Tesla. These guys are a REAL rock band, and I love them to death. Check out their new record, "INTO THE NOW". Rock on...dp

04/19/04 - BACK FROM THE DEAD! - Home
Hello friends, yes I'm alive, just busy as hell. Since my last post last month, feels like I've been all over the globe and, er...wait, I have! It all started after the birth of Hailey when things started getting hectic, go figure huh? After the show in Ft. Mitchell, KY, I was in such a rush to get home, I forgot my digital camera in my road case. So it spent the next few weeks on the crew truck while I was on planes, trains, ships, busses and cabs in various countries. So therefore I'm updating with no photos to show as of yet. I'm relying on the other members of the band and fans to forward me photos from the tour so I can put them up. Once they send, I promise to have them up. Oh, by the way, I'll have the OFFICIAL Hailey photo up soon also as I have yet to scan it. Ok, buckle in tight cause it starts getting bumpy here on out. Duke, Glenn, Jeff and myself fly out of Cincinnati every time the band flies anywhere as does Paul, Mark, Rod from Nashville and we all meet up at a hub city airport. Ok, we (Cincy boys) land in Houston. We check our cell phones to find a few missed phone calls and messages, not from our wives, but from Mark. They're in Nashville, the plane had trouble with the landing gear and had to be grounded. No more flights for the day...and we're boarding for the connecting flight to Cozumel, MX. At this point we're all in the state of mind... AGGGGGG!!!!!! Ok, so a call to the cruise line and all is taken care of. They'll fly the Nash boys down the next day. We (Cincy boys) stayed the night in Cozumel. No it wasn't the party you'd think or hoped it would be. Didn't even drink...wait, ok, a Corona sixxer from the store split between Jeff and myself, but we were so worn out, it was a card night in the hotel watching the tube trying to figure out what the hell they're talking about on the TV. So, the next day we make it to the ship and so do the Nash boys. All is well, we get settled in our cabins and we hit the pool bar. Good party those pool bartenders throw! The shows went awesome, they always do on those style of stages, big, wonderful, clean and well lit. We made stops in Honduras and Belize. While in Honduras, right after we re boarded the ship to disembark, Jeff noticed the headlines on CNN read, "Severed Head - 10th found in 9 months on a park bench in HONDURAS. Needless to say, I was ready to go holding both hands on each ear til we pushed out again. Rod and I hit a small place in Belize called the "Click N Sip" where you can go on the internet and drink a beer. Hey, I know there's a joke in there somewhere, write your own. We e-mail our families to let them know what's up as they have us also. We chose e-mail over phones as the bills would be higher than cheech and chong. I find the great news about my favorite cat had been mauled by some animal outside and taken to the hospital, but he's ok now. Just a lot of stitches and medicine, he's all new again. The fam was doing good. Dustin doing well in school, Vicky recovering nicely from the surgery and Hailey eating and sleeping just like her daddy! So all was well else where. We ending the tour by docking in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was SO beautiful pulling into port. I didn't want to leave. Even the bus ride to the airport was wonderful! I recommend anyone to check that place out if possible. While waiting to dock, we sat at the end of a stair well at the bottom where only crew and entertainers where allowed. I could here people gathering on the steps above us as they'd hear us and shout down compliments about the previous nights show. We returned the compliments with gratitude naturally. The comedian who'd performed earlier in the week was shouting out one liners after the next and when someone complimented my drumming, he shouted, "hey...can the drummer throw his drumsticks up here"...he stair wells erupted with laughter. It was the perfect top off to a perfect trip. Soon there will be photos from the rotating bar, pool, show and other parts of the trip, I'm just waiting on them, so check back soon. It was then to the airport and off to Atlanta where each plane to Nashville AND Cincinnati where both delayed due to weather and other reasons. Too much time in a airport will drive one nuts! We're finally home and have already played a show in the states. We played Saturday night in Dayton, OH at a beautiful theater/concert hall. Our opening act was Johnny Counterfit. He's a Johnny Cash impersonator and did a fine job. There were two shows, a afternoon show and a late night show. The late night being the better of the two naturally as we musicians are nocturnal creatures. The crowds both being near sell outs where fabulous! It was this day also that history was made...it was the first time that I had purchased a ticket to see Van Halen with Hagar in the group since 1991, I'm 18 all over again as next week I will see Tesla, and King's X. LIFE IS GOOD!!!!! but ROCK N ROLL is better!!!!...dp
PHOTOS COMING SOON, I PROMISE!!!!!
